Award-winning artist and calligrapher Julie Staller-Pentelnik has been making Judaic art for more than 20 years. A Detroit native with a BFA from Detroit's Center for Creative Studies, she taught herself Hebrew calligraphy there, and now works from her home studio in Cincinnati. She paints in bold, colorfast India inks and watercolor, combining elements from nature and Jewish texts and prayers into pieces that celebrate contemporary Jewish life. At the table: hand-designed hamsas, mezuzah cases, brass-and-art Chanukah menorahs and signed limited-edition prints; she also creates personalized ketubot and commissions for births, anniversaries and other life-cycle events.
